There’s a new book coming out that makes children appreciate reading more. And it makes them really appreciate the opportunity to curl up with their grown-up for a bedtime story. Those are two good things!
“The Snatchabook,” written by husband and wife team Helen and Thomas Docherty, presents the mystery of who could be stealing all of the stories in Burrow Down, where charming little animal families live and snuggle up in their cozy homes for bedtime stories.
“In every house, in every bed, a bedtime book was being read,” says the book, setting the stage with cute pictures of the little homes of rabbits, squirrels, owls and mice. Suddenly, each story book is snatched away leaving the readers and listeners stunned. Just who is taking the books and why makes for the mystery and heart-warming conclusion.
“The Snatchabook” encourages empathy toward others and an appreciation of books. But it also provides action, a little bit of a fright and great artwork. While not Halloween-themed, the book does come out October 1 and takes place during autumn with a full moon, so it certainly fits with the time of year – and beyond. The book is aimed at children ages 3 and older. “The Snatchabook” retails for $16.99 and is published by Sourcebooks.
