This was a milestone year for my daughter — she started third grade, got a new teacher, met new friends AND she lost her very first tooth!! Wow! Of course, I want her to feel and look good. New shoes are always on the top of our back-to-school shopping list — they are a necessity! We were invited to visit WSS to shop their wide variety of brand name shoes – just in time for back-to-school.
I have a few things in mind when buying shoes for my girl. Of course, cute shoes is a priority for my daughter, but I also look for comfort, price point, as well as, durability. My daughter is an active child. She’s always running, climbing, dancing, and wears her shoes down! Sometimes, in a matter of days! (I avoid white shoes at all costs!) You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to shoes. cheap shoes fall apart within weeks (in my experience).
We strolled the rows at WSS, and my daughter had a dilemma- To Velcro or to lace that was her question. Velcro is convenient, especially on the playground, but laces feel cool, and all the big kids have them! We tried on a variety of styles, and ultimately we decided on one of each. I didn’t want her to concern herself with tripping or constantly tying her shoe laces at school. She found these Twinkle Toes with memory foam by Skechers. Flashing lights have been a part of my daughters shoe closet. And are still a prerequisite. These sketchers are adorable, colorful, and easy Velcro flaps and rubber soles make these pair the perfect running shoe on the court or playground. Plus, the lights help bring attention to kids at night when they are crossing the street. I especially like shoes that light up during the Halloween Season.
Vans are just plain cool! My daughter picked this pair of gray, star pattern Vans. The laces are soft, the length is long enough for double tying. So far, the laces haven’t loosened! She’s going to rock her skateboard in this pair of tennis shoes!
My daughter gravitated towards this floral slip on shoe. It reminded her of TOMS and she’s been wearing them on a regular basis. I would have preferred a solid color (to match more outfits) but kids seem to get away with loud patterns and mix-matched outfits.
Living in SoCal means year-round sun! So, sandals make up a majority of our shoes. I also love buying shoes at the end of the Season, but one major reason is the price! I look ahead and buy for next year: these Celia sandals came in my daughters favorite color; pink and the faux gemstones will dress up a spring or summer ensemble.
Here are other shoes that caught our eye. I don’t have a son but these Hot Wheels shoes are fun!
I’m always confident that WSS will have what we are looking for at reasonable prices for the entire family. My husband loves their selection of Pumas.

My granddaughter’s (sisters) like to wear tennis shoes at school. The younger one just turned 5 and entered Kindergarten. She likes Velcro and would love those cute Skechers with flashing lights your daughter is wearing. Her big 9-1/2 yr old sister entered 9th grade and likes tennis shoes with laces.
