Paramount has released the first trailer for “A Quiet Place: Day One.” The spinoff based on the popular franchise follows the events of the day everyone heard the Earth go silent.
As with most of the trailers from this franchise, it is light on plot details. But based on the title alone, we can surmise how it’s about the chaos that ensued when blind extraterrestrial creatures with an acute sense of hearing began to ravage the Earth and how humans reacted by screaming or using loud weapons to mount a defense, not knowing that these sightless aliens with sharp hearing could kill.
Though the first two films are set during the aftermath of the alien invasion, ” “A Quiet Place: Day One” wants audiences to “experience the day the world went quiet.”
The trailer opens with The Abbott family, the characters of the first two films, listening intently for signs of life on a ham radio. It’s day 472 after the aliens appeared. A melancholy tune plays in the background as the days tick by, showing us how they have managed to survive since then, all the while grieving the loss of the family patriarch. We then see a small clip from “A Quiet Place Part w” where Emmett (Cillian Murphy) is running. The days that were being counted upward suddenly tick back to day one.
It’s just another average day in New York. It’s very noisy, people are constantly bumping into each other, and cars are honking because there’s so much traffic. Suddenly, we see a shot of Lupita Nyong’o’s character. She’s wearing a blue shirt, an open yellow sweater, and a light brown beanie while holding a cat. Some person skates around her, while others walk past her. She then looks to the blue sky, lit by what appears to be a meteor shower. Suddenly, one crashes down, and people panic. That ringing sound puts audiences in the chaos of not knowing what has happened and what is about to occur. That’s when we see cars tossed around like toys and fearsome aliens jumping on garbage trucks. Naturally, people are panicking, not knowing that all of the sounds they are creating are attracting these killers to them.
Other parts of the trailer reveal some of the other survivors and how modern-day society will start to crumble. The movie basically teases the alien invasion in real time and how humans must learn to survive during this confusing time.
Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, and Djimon Hounsou also star.
