MGM has released the first trailer for Red One. The Christmas actioner stars Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans as an unlikely pair tasked with saving a kidnapped Santa Claus (J.K. Simmons).
“Red One” is a new twist on the jolliest Christmas mythical figure. While there have been different takes on the holiday figure, the star-studded film brings together different lores and legends for a cinematic experience that looks to be a blend of heartfelt comedy and intense action neatly gift-wrapped for the audience’s enjoyment.
The trailer sees Johnson’s Callum Drift, the chief of security for the entire toy delivery operation and trainer who we see spoting the muscle-bound Saint Nick as he bench presses heavy weights. Though it may seem like everything runs smoothly, there has been a breach at the North Pole, and a group of shadowy mercs have kidnapped the man in red, code name Red One.
So in an effort to bring Santa Claus home in time for Christmas, Jacqueline Frost (Lucy Liu) brings in Jack O’Malley (Chris Evans), a world-class tracker who is skeptical about the kidnapping victim. Needless to say, his attitude changes when he encounters giant talking polar bears who don’t like the fact that the bounty hunter is an NL-4 aka “Level 4 Naughty Lister.”, trolls, and Callum playing a game of Krampusschlup – think the slapping game but with Krampus. There will also be toy cars that transform into full-scale and angry snowmen that fight on a tropical beach.
The film comes to us from “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “The Next Level” director Jake Kasdan, who uses a script written by written by Chris Morgan, from an original story by Hiram Garcia.
Red One also stars Kiernan Shipka, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Nick Kroll and Kristofer Hivju.
