Guardians of the Galaxy was the first Marvel film my daughter saw when she was 6 years old and it’s been her Marvel franchise in the MCU since. The Guardians have been part of our lives for 9 years. My daughter is 15 years old now and besides Disney’s Tangled, Guardians of the Galaxy is probably the movie that’s meant the most to us as a family. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve listened to the soundtrack! My daughter dressed up as Yondu one Halloween, and even met Michael Rooker! Nine years later, it is time to say goodbye to the Guardians of the Galaxy superhero team starring Rocket, Groot, Drax, Gamora, Star-Lord and Nebula along with new additions Mantis, Cosmo and Kraglin. What a bittersweet ending to a franchise my little girl grew up with!
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, the team has to undergo their toughest mission and possibly their most significant as they have to save their best friend Rocket. This story is unique as we learn about the gun-slinging Rocket’s back story and why he’s so aggressive and angry.
My daughter and I were invited to the world premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 which was held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. The crowd was enthusiastic and super energetic for the movie! We walked in with Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani and sat in the same row as She Hulk’s actor/comedian Ginger Gonzaga. So cool to be surrounded by members of the Marvel family!
After what felt like an eternity, the producers and director appeared on stage. James Gunn, Kevin Fiege and Louis D’Esposito stepped on stage followed by a reveal of the cast. Gunn shared, “This has been the most “marvelous” journey of my entire life!” He thanked Ken Fiege and D’Esposito for meeting him 12 years ago in Wilmington, NC to talk about what he wanted to do with the project. Gunn also thanked the cast and in particular Chris Pratt stated, “I wouldn’t been able to do this without him. He’s a great guy. He’s a great friend and I’m really appreciative.” He also thanked the fans for supporting GOG.
I have to say the Guardians movies are one of my favorite trilogies of all-time. Volume 3 is emotional, humorous, with one of the best villains to date and of course the film has an awesome collection of songs. Each member of the Guardians shined. I truly love that Mantis got her moment in this film! I do feel she was downplayed in the second film and Pom Klementieff was brilliant in this movie. I truly don’t want it to be over but Gunn worked his magic once again on this film and I am satisfied with the direction he took the Guardians in.
After the premiere, guests were treated to an after-party where we celebrated with the filmmakers and danced the night away! It was a perfect ending to my Guardians journey with my daughter! Thanks to Marvel and Disney for inviting us to this special event!
