Thanks for Marvel/Disney for inviting us to this conference.
Critics have just screened Avengers: Infinity War, and judging by their reactions fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be shaken. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, using a script written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus, the film will leave fans in an emotionally shattered state of shock. Without going into any huge spoilers, the film is epic, with stunning visuals and exciting battle sequences, all mixed with humorous moments and some very heartbreaking scenes.
However, before any of the press got to see the film, they were invited to attend the press junket with the cast, directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige, who all shared their non-spoilerly thoughts on the film that they haven’t seen yet. So here are five of the most interesting things from it.
National Treasure Jeff Goldblum Is The Master Of Ceremonies
It’s difficult to put into context how exciting it was to have Jeff Goldblum, who played the Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok, as the master of ceremonies. But it happened. The actor helped give everyone who participated in the press event a chance to answer a question by selecting bingo balls from a hopper. These balls either had an actor’s name on them or a trait that would relate to one of their characters.
It was very entertaining to see him exude his smooth charm as he began to make his picks and selected members of the press to ask their hard-hitting questions. Sometimes it ended up with him throwing the balls at the talent. One time, it even hit Robert Downey Jr. Whether or not that was intentional was hilariously unclear.
That Don’t Impress Thanos Much
Thanos is going to face some formidable heroes in the upcoming film. These heroes have fought war mongers, dictators, mad men, demi-gods, an evil robot, and even themselves. But none of that can compare to the omnipotent Thanos. When asked who the character would be impressed by, actor Josh Brolin said: “Obviously, I did not do my job very well.” But it wasn’t the character’s imposing presence that should concern our heroes. It was what was happen on set that should consider the real threat. “Being a person of the color purple and being naked on the set in order to create a vibe of fear, I really thought I scared everybody, but apparently, I didn’t,” Brolin said. “But was there somebody I was impressed by? Anthony Mackie. Everybody has their weakness, and Anthony Mackie is Thanos’ weakness.”
Is There A Real Script
Because the logistics of the film is unbelievably hard to wrap your head around, it’s easy to see why the script may change at any given time. There were even times where actors were given portions of the script or even fake scripts. It was so hard to tell what was going on, no one really knew if what they were reading was going to end up being in the movie or not.
“I read ‘a script,’ Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange, said. “Whether I read ‘the script’ is for them to know and me to find out when I see the movie.” He added that whatever they have read may not end up in the film because things are constantly changing.
“These guys always plus it every day, sometimes after the day, they will probably re-plus it in December after the film is out.,” Cumberbatch said. “They never stop, and this wheelhouse is a busy place to work. So whatever I read is not necessarily what you are going to see. I could tell you stuff about it, but it wouldn’t make any difference.”
Making A Fashion Statement
Of course, with a press conference as large as this, there are bound to be some outlets that don’t quite understand what kind of questions would be appropriate to ask. So when Scarlett Johansson was asked about the fashion in Infinity War, she was a bit taken aback
“I got the fashion question,” Johansson said. “I honestly, really don’t know how to answer that question. The fashion elements… I wear a leather leotard in this film and have been for the last ten years. So if you think of any fashion elements that you would like to include, please let us know. “
The actress did mention some of the changes we would see from her character. “I have a new vest, everyone. So that’s pretty exciting,” Johansson said. “Oh, I have a new hairstyle, if you haven’t noticed. It’s a little bit polarizing I can see, it’s fine. It was a choice I made, and I am sticking by it.”
Asgardians Meets Guardians
Avengers: Infinity War is a major crossover that brings together the titular Avengers with the misfit Guardians of the Galaxy. And it appears that Chris Hemsworth got a little nervous when he met them.
“It felt kinda like the first day at school for me,” Hemsworth said. “Everyone knew each other, and I didn’t, so I was the new kid. I had a weird set nervous butterflies walking around in my body. That was a fun thing. It was great to come into a whole new dynamic and a set of people to move around with and interact with.”
He compared the experience to being a fan watching his dreams come true. “This whole film for me I felt like a fan,” Hemsworth said. “Meeting a lot of these people and the characters I watched on screen and be on screen with them as Thor and as Chris also is pretty damn exciting. It was fantastic. It was great.”
No Suit For You
While Marvel Studios prides itself on bringing some very exciting costumes to life, there are times where the costumes aren’t real and the cast are forced to weak motion-capture suits. Suits that can only be described as pajamas with dots on them. Unfortunately, Tom Holland was one of those people who had to wear those suits. While the costume looks amazing on screen, the actor talked a little bit about his disappointment not being able to wear the actual Iron Spider suit on set.
“I am under strict instructions to keep my mouth shut. I did not get to wear the Iron Spider suit because it is simply too amazing to exist in real life,” Holland said. So I joined the wonderful Mark Ruffalo and stood amongst these gods wearing pajamas. It wasn’t quite as heroic as I would like it to be, but I haven’t seen the film yet so I can’t tell you what it does in real life. But I can tell you that it will be amazing.”
Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on April 27, 2018.

Looks like it was a blast! Scrambling to find a theater here in NZ that will be showing it. I should be OK LOL. But Jeff Goldblum is indeed a national treasure. Iconic career way back to The Fly, and even beyond. Thanks for sharing 🙂
