Celebrating Christmas means watching our favorite holiday family movies! Films that we never get tired of watching help my family get in a festive spirit. Many of the movies that I watched as a kid are the ones I continue to watch with my daughter. Movies Anywhere makes it easy to collect my favorite titles in one place and plan family movie nights! We loaded the app into our Roku TV and started our festive movie feast!
Here is a list of our family’s favorites that we watch yearly:
A Christmas Story – There are so many classic moments from this film…you’ll shoot your eye out! And that leg lamp! How could you not want to watch this title over and over and feel for Ralphie every time he walks downstairs in his bunny onesie. If he only knew that PJ onesies are a popular item these days.
Elf – Buddy the oversized-elf leaves the North Pole for a journey of self-discovery after learning that he’s not really an Elf. Elf is full of laughs and messages of Christmas magic that needs to be watched yearly! This is definitely one of Will Ferrell’s finest performances.
Muppets Christmas Carol – There’s nothing like seeing Jim Henson’s characters reprise the classic Dickens’ story. This version has a great Scrooge (Michael Cane), Kermit the Frog’s nephew Robin plays Tiny Tim and the film’s sets are beautiful! This version is especially wonderful for young kids. It’s simple and the jokes aren’t over the top.
Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas – Another creation of Jim Henson’s, I think this special is overlooked by many! It truly should be on everyone’s holiday-watch list. I like the message of teamwork when facing adversity. This one is just pure fun to watch. The best part for me are the songs! They are catchy and memorable “Cuzz, there ain’t no hole in the washtub!”
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – Rudolph’s nose has gone down in history! I mean, he was bullied, his parents tried to hide his unique qualities and he still came out ahead of the pack. This title will never get old and I appreciate the older version of stop motion animation that went into this holiday classic!
Little Drummer Boy – My favorite Christmas song and probably one of my favorite Christmas films. Of the little boy who hated everyone, but his life changes. No gift from the heart is too small.
A Charlie Brown Christmas – Charlie Brown seems to have the holiday blues. He is reminded of what Christmas is really all about- the birth of Jesus Christ. That message never gets old and like Rudolph’s nose, Charlie Brown’s tree is an iconic pop culture symbol of the holidays. I do wish that Charlie wasn’t so depressed and for once got a chance to kick that football.
New movies that we added to Movies Anywhere account to expand our Christmas tradition list:
- Arthur’s Christmas
- Miracle on 34th Street – Can you believe I’ve never watched this one??
- Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You
- Olaf’s Frozen Adventure – This title also comes with 6 other classic short titles.
What I like about Movies Anywhere is that the service itself is FREE. You just pay for the titles you want (once) and they are there to watch anytime, anyplace and if you have young children, over and over and over. It’s easy to set up an account via your desktop or download the app on your phone or iPad. Then install it on your smart TV or launch on your favorite device. Sub profiles can be created for different members of your family when a family movie night isn’t feasible. My daughter is interested in watching all of the Marvel films leading up to the latest installment. I was able to select the movie ratings that my daughter has access to.
So now we can add all of the movies to her profile to get her caught up before Marvel: Infinity Wars comes in 2018.
You can concurrently stream your movies and videos from a signed-in Movies Anywhere account on up to four different devices, but you may only stream the same movie on two devices at one time.
What’s really cool is you can watch your favorite titles while you are traveling! Just make sure to download your favorite movies from the app if you’re flying or will be offline.
Link your Movies Anywhere account to retailers and receive free movies (this was an option for me at the time of the post). Current participating retailers include Vudu, Apple Store, Google store and Amazon.
NOTE- If you had a Disney Movies Anywhere account, make sure to move your library over to Movies Anywhere account.
