Plan a visit for this unique zoo event on a memorable evening this October. Bring your flashlight and a jacket to explore the Big Bear Apline Zoo grounds and seek those special animals that are hard to see by day, but come alive by night. The perfect Halloween-themed activity for your family to see the sights and hear the sounds of nature as the sun sets. We heard the wolves howling! Catching the eyes of a wild coyote sparkle in the beam of your lantern is a memorable experience. Come see how the mountain lions, bobcats, wolves, grizzly and black bears, and many other animals celebrate their night life. We also had ample opportunities to see raccoons, owls and snow leopards (new ones). A baby bobcat even came out to greet us.

Mountain lion
The gates open at 6:30 p.m. and close at 7 p.m. to start the tour. (There is a small lobby exhibit area with birds and snakes available for viewing prior to the start of the Safari.) The zoo is open for this special evening on select October dates, including October 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31, 2015. Admission for adults (11 and Up) is $12; Children (3-10) is $9; Seniors (60 and Up)is $9; and children under 2 are free.

The Big Bear Alpine Zoo has been saving alpine wildlife since 1959. Originally it was not a zoo, but a safe place for injured animals to rehabilitate and get a second chance to return to the wild. The facility is proud to be the “go-to” facilities for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the US Forest Fish and Wildlife Service for the San Bernardino National Forest. When there is an animal in trouble, hit by a car, injured or confiscated for illegal possession, the staff of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo is there to assist.
I used my iPhone for my pictures and the flashlights were a wonderful source of lighting! Guests should expect to spend about an hour visiting the zoo.
We also had a chance to spend time with this owl during our visit (meeting the animals is not a part of the tour).
