Mark your calendars Parents! PBS Kids just announced it will be premiering on November 23rd its newest show, Splash and Bubbles. The animated series is designed to entertain and teach kids ages 4-7 about marine biology and ocean science concepts while building socio-emotional concepts.
Using digital puppetry technology, the animation sounds as though it will capture eyes of all ages.
Splash and Bubbles follows the adventures of Splash, a yellow fusilier fish who has migrated all over the ocean before settling down in Reeftown, where he befriends Bubbles, a Mandarin dragonet whose vivid orange and electric blue coloring matches her colorful personality. Until Splash came along, Bubbles and most of the other Reeftown residents had no idea what lived beyond the cozy confines of their coral walls. Together, Splash, Bubbles and their friends explore the world’s undersea habitats, make new friends and learn about the many different ways life looks and lives in the ocean, celebrating the importance of diversity along the way.
Digital content, such as games, apps and educator resources, will be available on PBS websites beginning in the Fall of 2016.
I’m impressed as usual by Henson’s attention to detail, the show was developed with an advisory panel of marine biologists, digital experts and educators. The show will focus on themes of diversity, individuality, interconnectedness and the celebration of learning and discovery.
Splash and Bubbles is executive produced by Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford of The Jim Henson Company, Julie Phillips and Merrill Puckett-Miller of Herschend Enterprises, as well as John Tartaglia, Michael Shawn Lewis and Jill Shinderman. Tom Keniston is producer and David Skelly is supervising director.

I teach my grandsons about ocean life by reading them stories about the ocean and sea creatures. I also teach them by taking them on boat tours when we go to the beach so they can learn about the ocean.
One way we teach our children about ocean life is to take them to the Dallas aquarium. They have learned a lot. Their favorite exhibit were the penguins.
