My feet hurt. I see other women on the sidewalks of New York wearing trendy high-heeled boots or ballet flats and I feel fashion envy. But when I run errands around the city, my running shoes are my only option. Most shoes just hurt my feet and give me lower back pain.
I recently got to meet an Dr. Phillip Vasyli, an Australian podiatrist, who pioneered the Orthaheel technology and a line of shoes that are made to be healthier for your feet. His shoe company, Vionic, sponsored a meet and greet at a Midtown hotel recently to show off their newest shoes, explain their history and indulge bloggers in some foot therapy in the form of foot massages and reflexology.
Dr. Vasyli says his Australian clients want to wear flip flops but needed more support then the beach shoes typically provide. One of his clients came to him with a custom orthotic glued to the foot bed of his flip flop. It was ugly, but it gave the doctor an idea. He was able to create a universal orthotic that would work for most people and design a flip flop around it. The launch of this flip flop with arch support was so successful that now his company is making many other designs of shoes.
I was presented with this beautiful pair of ballet flats that are so comfy. The rubber sole, padding and arch support allows me to comfortably and stylishly walk the 2-3 miles that I typically do to run errands everyday. From the outside, the shoe looks as light and stylish as the other ballet flat brands I see on the street. It’s not big and clunky as some ‘healthy, podiatrist-recommended shoe brands” tend to appear. I’ve been wearing my stylish Olivia flats for two weeks now and my feet and lower back are pain free. Now I can’t wait for summertime so I can pick out some of their adorable sandals.
Vionic Shoes can be purchased on Zappos, QVC and directly at www.vionicshoes.com

Jill, saw your post from Nov. 2013, here it is May 12, 2013 and I needed to get new shoes.
MY FEET HURT is an understatement when it comes to me and my feet, ankles, knees, hips and back, OUCH! I have only been able to wear New Balance in a wide width & very expensive custom made orthotics to put inside so I could even just walk, for past 6 years, then found Vionic w/orthaheel on Zappos. Thought I’d give it a try. Just received my Walkers today, will wear around house before I decide to keep or not. They are super light weight, make my feet look smaller (yea). Slipped my feet into them, WOW, what a difference from any other “sneakers” I’ve tried. Doesn’t hurt my little toe, arch is in correct place, soft and comfortable. Will see how it goes, keeping my fingers crossed.
I love love love bionic with orthaheel.
I love these shoes. Any time you need a pair worn for a review—just let me know.
