I always wondered how some chalkboard signs I’ve seen at places like Starbucks, REI, Trader Joe’s and other stores were made. Now I know… chalk markers.
I’ve only heard about chalk markers only recently. They are much easier to use than regular chalk and work just like paint markers.

I used the Chalk Ink Spring-a-Ling-a-Ding-Dong wet wipe marker set. This is a Spring Time set of 6 chisel tip markers. Colors in this set are: Grape Jelly, Granny Bird Blue, Green Tea, Chalk White, Smiley Face Yellow and Piggy Bank Pink.
These markers work really great. I tried them out on a few different items since the markers work on metal, glass, plastic, chalkboards, etc. Used them on a small plant pot, plastic paint can gift box and chalkboard tags. I didn’t have to wait too long for the ink to dry on the surface when I used them. Mistakes are easy to wipe off with water. Since these are wet wipe markers, they can smear a little if you rub hard enough. You can blend the colors by layering them while wet and using a paint brush or cotton swab to blend.
The colors in this set really standout on the black background of the chalkboard tags. Trying to write with the chisel tip takes getting used to on a smaller surface and would probably work better on a larger surface area. I wish I had a huge chalk signboard to use these on, because they would work perfectly on it. I did some test dabs on paper, before using them, and they hold up pretty well after it dried. The colors in this set are bright and stand out on the surfaces I used them on.
The Artista Pro marker sets use a different ink formula, so it can only be wiped off only with ammonia-based cleaners. These will hold up against rain, heavier use, and rinsing, making its uses much more versatile.
Chalk Ink markers are perfect for crafters, designers, do-it-yourselfers, home decorators and business owners. So easy and great to use if you are calligrapher making tags, menus and signage. Companies like Starbucks, Panera Bread, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, REI and Peet’s are avid users of Chalk Ink, some with custom created colors.
