With summer upon us, you and your family may have some exciting travel plans lined up. Even if you don’t, you and your kids can go on virtual trips around the world with Little Passports. Teaching your child about other countries is a great way to expose them to other cultures and perhaps even get them excited about future world travel!
Kieran opened the box with anticipation, as couldn’t wait to discover what it held. Kieran had just received the Explorer Kit. Inside, she found a small suitcase, a world map, a ‘boarding pass’ (used for on-line access), 2 stickers (of the stars of our virtual road trips, Sam & Sofia), an activity sheet, a photo of Sam and Sofia on their magic scooter (that takes them from country to country) and a welcome letter.
The content of Little Passports is for kids older than Kieran. We tested it out on a weekend where my 6 and almost-9 year old nieces were around, too. My older niece is fully-independent with everything from entering the secret code to access on-line features to playing the games contained there in. Kieran and her 6-year old cousin, however, needed help the entire way, and did quickly lose interest since the content was beyond them.
The Explorer Kit provides a great introduction to world geography, including the difference between a country and a continent and quizzes your child on what countries are on what continent. It also has fun puzzle games, that don’t require the previous knowledge of world geography to play.
Each of the monthly kits contains a package from Sam and Sofia as they travel to a new country:
- A letter addressed to your child from Sam and Sofia
- Fun souvenirs (may be a music CD, traditional country toys, arts and crafts projects, puzzles, stickers and more)
- An activity sheet
- A photo from the country
- A passport stamp
- A map marker
- A suitcase sticker
- A collectible boarding pass to access more online games and activities
I do wish the Explorer Kit came with the first country, as it would be nice to see how Little Passports presents travel around the world.
Meanwhile, Kieran has found plenty of uses for her new suitcase…from carrying her “sleepy bunny” to holding her headbands. Even though the content was little beyond Kieran, it still held her interest in doing all the activities with her bigger cousins.

BUY IT: You can order monthly subscriptions as low as $10.95/month on their website. It’s recommended for ages 5-10, and based on the experience with Kieran and my nieces, I’d say that’s perfect!
