I’m constantly scouring the web for unique products for kids. I happened to find Ficklets on Twitter. Ficklets are fun eye wear charm huggers for kids. Ros Guerrero, mom and creator of Ficklets, wanted to offer fashionable and variety to spruce up ordinary eyeglass frames for kids. Her daughter, Gem, who has special needs, is her inspiration. Ros wanted to offer affordable, yet stylish accessories to accent glasses that would help boost a child’s self image. Ficklets are $5.98 (majority of collection) and $7.98 (“Classics”). They offer a nice selection for both boys and girls.
I wish Ficklets were around when I was a kid. I started to wear glasses when I was 8. I felt very geeky and uncomfortable that I stood out from the other kids. Lately glasses seem much more accepted and even a huge fashion statement.
I had the perfect girl in mind to test out the charm huggers for me. My niece Norah has been wearing glasses since she was a baby. I contacted Ficklets and they were kind enough to let Norah choose 2 pairs. She was very excited to get a chance to pick some Ficklets. Norah chose the glittery butterflies, and pink ballet slippers. I got a chance to see them before they were delivered to my niece. The huggers were exactly how I pictured them to be: adorable, sweet and girly. – Tee
Norah’s mom Jess writes about her daughter’s experience with Ficklets:
If you have a child who wears glasses, you know how limited your options are. For my own daughter, her eye condition means that she has to have a wider frame to accommodate a bifocal–which means we have even less options. Glasses have always been a part of her life, since she was diagnosed with bilateral esotropia at nine months old. She hasn’t always minded her glasses, but every once in a while will ask me why she has to wear them and many other kids her age don’t. I always try to instill a bit of self-confidence in my children, and now Ficklets are helping in a very small way. These little eyeglass charms attach to the side of the eyeglass frame and come in an array of objects: food, animal, shapes and even sports-themes! Great for both boys and girls, they are extremely cute and very affordable. My daughter Norah, 5, was delighted when I presented her with the ballet slippers and the sparkly butterflies. She requested that I help her put them on right away so she could show her ballet instructor the ballet slipper Ficklets. She proudly marched into the studio at class time to show her teacher and friends, who oohed and aahed over her new accessory. She got a similar reaction when she wore her pink sparkly butterflies to school for her Valentine’s Day party. Just the little boost she needed! And don’t ladies of all ages just love to accessorize?
It’s time now to get new glasses for Norah, as she’s currently outgrowing her frames. When we went to the optometrist’s office today, Norah was excited and chose a couple of options for frames, then sat down to try them on. As is usual because of her face shape and lens prescription, she couldn’t get any of the choices she wanted. The chunky purple ones? Nope. The cute, wire-rimmed blue ones? Nope. We had to settle for a wire-framed brown pair–still cute, in my opinion, but definitely not what she’d hoped for. As the technician started to take Norah’s measurements, I could see Norah’s eyes welling up with tears. “You know,” I said, “these new glasses would look AWESOME with some different Ficklets.” She brightened a little. “The strawberry ones?” she asked hopefully while wiping her eyes. “Sure!” I replied. And that was that–she was happy again.
If Ficklets can bring her such happiness, I must ask the question: being an eyeglass wearer myself, how old is too old for Ficklets? 🙂

My favorite Ficklet is the glitter heart. If I will I will give them to my granddaughter Emelia who is 7 years old. She has been wearing glasses since she was 3 years old. We always try to find ways to make her feel special because she gets to wear glasses.

These are absolutely adorable. I wish they had been around when I was little. I started wearing glasses when I was quite young, and these would have helped me feel better about having to wear them, after the novelty wore off.
There is a young girl at our church with special needs, and has worn glasses since infancy. She would love something as special as this. I can see her proudly showing off the glitter butterflies, the glitter hearts, and the glitter flowers.
I would have my daughters pick out some Ficklets for their friends.
My faves are basketball, football and the tigers I would have my son use them.He does not like to wear glasses and I think this would help him like wearing them.
I would choose the Gold Petals w/stone, Pink/Yellow Swirl and the Lt. Pink Sparkle Heart Ficklets. I would give them to my daughter , who just started wearing glasses.
