We’re always on the lookout for a time to celebrate (and decorate) in our little household. This Thursday, February 3 is Chinese New Year so we made our own dragon decoration for our front door.
Step 1: To make the dragon I began by searching Google for Chinese Dragon images and found a template for the face on www.kidsdomain.com/craft/cegif/newyear/chinesedragon1.gif
Step 2: I let my daughter color in the template with paint and crayons. I showed her some photos of dragon parades online so she could be inspired by the red, orange and gold colors.
Step 3: The tail of the dragon is simply large triangles cut out of construction paper. I glued together three triangles for each segment and then created four segments.
Step 4: Next, we decorated the tail segments with red and gold glitter glue.
Step 5: We connected the head and all the tail segments using brass paper fasteners. These fasteners give the tail the movement needed to resemble the parade floats.
Step 6: Hang and admire our fine work
