Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a new Moana 2 featurette that celebrates the eponymous hero’s return to the big screen.
The featurette has some new clips from the film plus some behind-the-scenes footage of Auli‘i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson during their respective recording sessions. The release of the featurette also marks the first day that tickets for the highly anticipated sequel goes on sale.
Seeing how Moana answers the ancestrial call to journey across the ocean and reconnect the islands, the wayfinder is going to need a bigger crew. Disney is asking fans in the U.S. if they have what it takes to join Moana’s crew. The sweeping online contest encourages fans to show off their skills, creating videos on Instagram and TikTok, responding to one of four fun prompts: Can you dance like Moana? Give us your best Chee Hoo! Who are your Pua and Heihei? Can you make a Moana-inspired dish? The contest kicks off today, Oct. 28, 2024, and runs through Monday, Nov. 11, 2024. One grand-prize winner will win a trip to O’ahu for a Moana-themed vacation to the AULANI Resort and Spa. Select videos may be featured on Disney+ in November and December. Additional prizing will include a behind-the-scenes tour of Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Moana 2” consumer products and an exclusive art print from the movie signed by the filmmakers.
The voice cast of “Moana 2” includes Hualālai Chung, Rose Matafeo, David Fane, Awhimai Fraser, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House, Gerald Ramsey and Alan Tudyk, who returns as Heihei.
Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, “Moana 2” features music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa‘i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina. Jared Bush and Miller are writing the film, which is executive produced by Jennifer Lee, Bush and Johnson.
Moana 2 opens in theaters on November 27, 2024.
