Here’s your first look at what’s inside the Star Wars Launch Bay at Disneyland’s Season of the Force. That’s it Mommy/L.A. presents these exclusive images to share of the props and costumes on display from all of the Star Wars films past and future from last night’s media event.
Aiming to function as a rotating exhibit, Imagineers have reconfigured the Innoventions area to reflect the presence of Star Wars as part of the Disney family. As time goes on, Launch bay will feature even more costumes, concepts, art, and props from the entire Star Wars slate.
One of our fave areas is the small theater display with a retrospective video about the behind the scenes of Star Wars with all the storytellers in the new universe. You get to hear from folks like Kathleen Kennedy, members of the Lucasfilm Story Group, J.J. Abrams, Dave Filoni, and Gareth Edwards about becoming a part of a new sprawling era of Star Wars entertainment.
In the exhibit area of the Launch Bay you can find Dark Side and Light Side pieces grouped together. From incredibly detailed miniatures of ships to the real life speeder Rey uses on Jakku, guests can scour items from some of their favorite moments up close like Han’s blaster and Phasma’s helmet.
In the queues for the meet and greets there are also hero and villain helmet displays. On the Dark Side line to meet Darth Vader, you can see the evolution of Trooper helmets from every era. When you wait in line to meet Chewie, helmets from the rebellion await. The Sabine helmet from Star Wars: Rebels is a favoritte touch.
Very much like the Marvel meet and greets upstairs, fans can get an opportunity to interact with characters from the films. Vader will interact with you and depending on what side you’re on will threaten or train you. Chewie is just lots of love and hugs. Meeting these iconic personas is a dream come true for any fan of Star Wars. Even if the line’s long its worth it and there are also tons of photo ops at places like the Cantina and the Jedi Library.
It’s been announced that an expansion to the Jedi training academy is planned for this area as well but has not been completed. In a side area there is also a section where guests can play Disney Infinity and owners of the game can get codes to unlock Launch Bay exclusive levels at home. There is everything for everyone in the family. Planning on visiting soon? At the exit of the Launch Bay fans will get an opportunity to buy the latest in Star Wars gear including costume replicas that will cost a pretty penny but no doubt you can find the most unique items for yourself or loved ones.
Launch Bay is but a taste of what Disneyland has to offer to Star Wars fans who can’t wait for the land to open. It’s just the right Christmas treat before the film and kicks off Disneyland holidays this month. Expects lots of lines and the need to to come back for more!!
Season of the Force opens this Monday at the Disneyland Resort.
We were invited by Disneyland to a media preview for editorial purposes. Opinions are our own.
