Ladies, Gentlemen, kids of all ages, start your engines! The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is reopening Monday, December 7th, after a 13 month long transformation into an amazing state of the art center. Their groundbreaking new program features characters from the Disney/Pixar favorite Cars and your tour guides include none other than Lightning McQueen, Mater, and more of their friends as you make your way around the Disney/Pixar Cars Mechanical Institute! A “CARSpad” tablet helps visitors maneuver their way through a combination of science, physics, technology and a digital scavenger hunt that are sure to entertain kids of all ages.
Featured exhibits include Precious Metal sponsored by Rolex, which details how precious metals are used in some of the most prestigious makes and models of cars. Rolling Sculpture shows of the streamline designs of cars from the Roaring 20’s and how they helped to shape the automotive industry into something that moved from function to fabulous, and straight into the driveways of the cream of the crop!
If you’ve got the need for speed, look no further! The Forza Motorsports Racing Experience presented by Xbox is sure to blow you away! Sit behind the wheel of a custom Forza Motorsport 6 and hit the virtual race track. Additional exhibits include Motorsports, sponsored by Lucas Oil, and BMW hosts BMW and the Art of the Automobile, the connecting link joining automobiles and fine art including cars from the famed BMW Art Car Collection that feature works by Alexander Calder, David Hockney, and Robin Rhode.
The relaunch of the Petersen Automotive Museum is a fantastic way for schools and families to find a new and exciting way to embrace STEAM-centered activities. Fieldtrips, youth/family programs, and public programs including gallery talks, special tours, screening, and author events, as well as hands-on seminars and lectures are sure to excite car lovers of all ages!
Check out the museum’s collection of vintage cars including a Chrysler Imperial Parade Phaeton used by Presidents Eisenhower and Nixon during official parades, Hollywood classics life Herbie the Lovebug, driven by Lindsey Lohan in Herbie: Fully Loaded (Disney/2005), and a 1939 Bugatti that was originally owned by the Prince of Persia!
