Wii Video Game Review & Giveaway (closed): Disney Universe

A video game that appeals to both kids and parents? Disney Universe does that! This is an entertaining action-packed game for beginning gamers and their families. The game feels like a mini virtual theme park that showcases different levels based on Disney and Pixar movies. 1-4 players suit up as one of their favorite characters such as Mickey Mouse, Tron, Cheshire Cat and explore new Disney challenges as one player or as a team! I’m a sucker for anything to do with Disney therefore, I was thrilled to take it for a test run on our Wii with my family!

Players are introduced to VIC (Virtual Information Cube), the tour guide for Disney Universe in the video game’s intro. VIC gets hacked by his nemesis Hex, the “Bad guy”, who now needs help from players to restore balance in the Disney Universe. Players suit up and get ready for their first adventure! My young one selected one of the available costumes, Jasmine. She got a kick out of her big headed, big grinned avatar dressed as one of her favorite princesses. We started in the Pirates of Caribbeans world. We destroyed pirate ships, put out fires and freed guests! She is getting used to moving around the worlds and collecting coins. Coins are the source of “buying” new costumes and unlocking worlds. Collect as many as you can. I love playing as a team but it can be a little frantic while you trying to fight off the bad guys. Team playing gets you through the levels faster. Another feature that is nice for young players is that the characters don’t really die. They just respawn (over and over). Allowing you unlimited chances to solve the puzzles.

I recommend this game for young gamers (rated E10+). Disney Universe is an easy game to navigate through. Arrows direct players on what their next move is. This navigation feature is helpful for players who are getting acquainted with the game. The option can be turned off in your game settings. There are over 40 characters to play as and six different colorful worlds to explore. Kids will enjoy riding around on animals and throwing water balloons. My husband and I discovered that we can pick up your enemies or your team members and throw them around. That made us chuckle! Some of the actions can get repetitive such as moving things around but all in all this is a fun game. My husband and I even put in a few late nights playing our way through Alice in Wonderland world.

I just learned that the Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas add-on pac is available for PlayStation3 and XBox 360! Visit http://disney.go.com/official-sites/disney-universe/ to find out the latest news on Disney Universe add-ons and more.
