With the Diamond Jubilee behind us, the country is alive with excitement over the next big event…the upcoming London 2012 Olympic (27 July-12 August) and Paralympic Games (29 Sugust-9 September)!
We are not fortunate enough to attend the Olympic Games this year. Tickets are difficult to get, especially so close to the games! There are several events leading up to the Olympics that are available to attend to help join in the celebrations. With all the opportunities of free or low cost events it would be a shame to not take advantage of that! It is likely that some events will be close to where we live since they are all over the country.
One of the events we were able to see for FREE was the Olympic Torch Relay. The Olympic Torch passed through Frome on May 22. We arrived early enough to find the perfect grassy spot overlooking the main street where the Olympic Torch would pass right by us.
I decked my little guy out in some patriotic colors, his USA Olympic shirt, and gave him a USA and a Union Jack flag to wave around. He ran around with both flags in his hands all morning. I definitely got my exercise chasing him around!
The crowds were getting thicker as the time to see the Olympic Torch pass us got closer. There were so many people, but from our little spot it didn’t feel too crowded. Plus the weather was absolutely perfect! There were flags waving everywhere, excitement in the air, and smiling faces all around!
Here is my little guy giving Mommy a break from all the running around he did! He always has a car or two in his hand!
It can be challenging documenting events while holding onto my squirmy toddler! I was so worried he would get lost in the crowd! Despite the challenge, I was able to catch a few moments of our Olympic experience to share with you.
Here you can see Olympic Torch Bearer, Faye Norris. She has an amazing background story. If you get a chance, check out the official London 2012 website and read about her (www.london2012.com). You can see the big smile on her face and the excitement in the crowd! I love it!
This is the Olympic Torch passing right by us! It was an amazing experience to be so close!
We definitely will be cheering on Team USA from our cruise! Enjoy the games!
