Are you bored with your wardrobe? Your family’s wardrobe? Are you looking for something fun and different? Bored Inc. was created by Carol and Courtney. The mother and daughter duo of Bored Inc. were bored with what was on the fashion market. Everything looked the same and there wasn’t anything fun and original. So they decided that they were were “BORED” and we were going to do something about it!
Bored Inc. offers hilarious and cool character brands such as Stinky Poo, Yummies and TokyoBunnie. Their online shop has apparel for women, men and children. I really dig their wall decals. I think the Bright Colored Yummies would be adorable in a child’s room. Bored Inc. was gracious to send me an item of my choice. I actually decided to test out one of their men’s tees on my husband. We received the Men’s ‘Bored’ Logo tee in size L. The graphic is of a student sitting at desk looking , well, bored! The shirt made an appearance on Seth Rogen’ back in the film Knocked Up! Ironically, my husband is a teacher and one thing I know is that his music students are definitely not bored. But, as he has shared with me, traditional schooling does not fit all kids. So this shirt seemed to be very fitting! The color is a light blue American Apparel brand t-shirt and it’s a nice fit on hubby’s tall frame and enhances his beautiful blue eyes! The material is soft and hasn’t lost it’s shape. The shirt currently is on sale for $12.99!
You’ll also find belts, bags, greeting cards on www.boredinc.net. Looking for a unique baby shower gift? How about the Cutie Poo onesie? Parents will never be Bored of their little poos! LOL!
BORED INC. is offering one lucky winner their choice of any tee (women’s, men’s or kids) or baby onesie of their choice! This is also our first international giveaway!
We asked the ladies of Bored, Inc. a few questions:
What do you love about your mom? (Courtney?)
My mom has always encouraged me to pursue everything and anything that interested me. When I wanted to start a company while still in high school, she made it possible. She has been a major source of inspiration and encouragement throughout my life.
What do you love about being a mom? (Carol?)
I love working with Courtney and being able to see on a daily basis, how creative she is, and how much she has grown with her artistic ability. I am so proud of what we do, and I love being able to work together.
Can mothers and daughters really work well together? Any challenges?
They can! I think we work so well together because, being a mother and daughter, we are attune to each others sensibilities and limits. We can tell when one or the other is overworked, we get excited over the same projects, and we generally lend support to one another that doesn’t exist in a normal business relationship. I think this strengthens the foundation of Bored Inc. and makes us a better, more stable company.
What or who inspired you to start your own business?
We actually started our business about thirteen years ago. When I was in high school. I thought it would be cool to paint mehndi (henna paste) on my hands, but I found it really difficult. I thought it would be much better suited in a marker format- so we made it happen! We produced a henna colored, non-toxic tattoo pen and then went out and marketed it. After that, companies started asking us for more products and more designs. So originally, we started off with our designs appearing on other people’s products. It wasn’t until about eight years ago that we decided to really focus on our own art and designs, and create a brand for ourselves- that was the birth of Bored Inc.
What advice do you have for women who are afraid to start their own ventures?
It’s hard work, but it’s worth it. If you have an idea, give it a try- you never know if it will take off or not, but it won’t have any chance if you don’t try. Just don’t go into business for yourself thinking it’s any easier than a normal job, because it’s actually a lot more work. You are solely responsible for the success or failure of your company, and if you aren’t committed, it’s not going to flourish. Building a social network and marketing yourself is also really important. There’s so many great resources available now that weren’t there before, and you need to take advantage of them.
One winner will receive any tee (women’s, men’s or kids) or baby onesie of their choice.
