We love getting away from the city and finding hidden gems! I couldn’ think of a better location than one that is a part of American movie history. Paramount Ranch is located in the Santa Monica Mountains in Augora Hills. The old movie ranch is 750 acres and we were excited to check it out.
Once owned by Paramount Picture the area was used to film many western films back in the day. We weren’t lucky enough to see any filming but the area is still used in commercials, tv shows and movies. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, picnicking, and of course checking out the western buildings and storefronts. My daughter played the part as she explored the area in her cowgirl hat. Make sure to bring your camera as there’s plenty of photo opps in front of the jail or general store. We saw horseback riders while we sat under a large tree and had our snacks.
The area is quiet, which is a treat and parking is free! This momma likes that. Make sure you pack sunscreen for the family. Fido? You can bring him to. The ranch is dog friendly. The National Park Service hosts programs from time to time. We actually missed a New Year event for kids this morning. But, we may have to check the Banjo Fiddle Festival that takes place in May.
