I have long been tired of the stains that are ever-so-difficult to remove on my kids plasticware. But they are still too young to use our “grown-up” versions. I love the concept that Brinware has introduced in children’s dinnerware. They have an adorable, yet functional line of tempered glass plates covered in removable silicone for maximum mix-and-match potential.
To coordinate, they also have non-slip silicone mats that stay-put and reinforce the ABC’s during mealtime as well.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with the ins and outs of tempered glass, I found a great description on www.glasswerks.com :
“This process of thermal manipulation both toughens the glass lite and significantly decreases the risk of injury during glass breakage. Due to its high compression levels, tempered glass shatters into many small, blunt pieces rather than breaking into large, sharp shards, which are most responsible for serious glass injuries. The thermal tempering process also renders the lite four times stronger than annealed float glass, and two times stronger than heat-strengthened glass–another type of heat-treated material. It is because of these properties that tempered glass satisfies safety codes set by American National Standards Institute(ANSI) Z97.1 and Consumer Products Safety Commission16 CFR 1201, which mere heat-strengthened glass do not fulfill.”
And here’s why these will be replacing our current plastic plates:
- First, it cleans up easily-top rack dishwasher safe and comes out 100% stain-free. Awesome.
- The silicone covers and heavier weight help minimize them accidentally getting pushed onto the floor (not that this has ever happened with our plasticware. RRRrrrright.)
- Since it’s made of glass, I have no worries about some of the chemicals that are STILL present in plastic.
- The kids love that their plates and placemats match colors. Hey, whatever gets them to the table!
- And the silicone placemats are GENIUS! So easy, even a couple of five-year-olds can demonstrate their effectiveness:
